Vibe
Jing'an is Shanghai's most walkable central district. A blend of luxury malls (Jing'an Kerry Centre, Réel), independent cafés, rooftop bars, and peaceful temples. The south merges into Former French Concession territory with tree-lined lanes. Very international — you'll hear English, Japanese, and Korean daily.
Best for
Young professionals, digital nomads, singles, couples who want to be in the thick of it
Metro lines
Pros
Most walkable district — errands, food, nightlife all on foot
Excellent metro connections (Lines 2, 7, 12, 13)
Huge variety of international restaurants and bars
Close to Nanjing West Rd shopping and West Nanjing Rd business hub
Cons
Expensive — among the highest rents in Shanghai
Noisy streets, especially around Nanjing Rd area
Smaller apartments for the price compared to suburbs
Insider tip
Look along Changde Rd or Kangding Rd for slightly lower rents while staying central. The area around Jing'an Temple station is priciest — move 2 stops west for better deals.
